12 Verbs for Postcards
ÊTRE – TO BE –
I always refer to the verb être as the king of the verbs as you simply cannot express yourself in any meaningful way without a very good knowledge of this verb.
Je suis – I am
J’ai été – I was
Je serai – I will be

ALLER – TO GO –
This verb is irregular in both the present, the passé composé and the future. Must be learnt as a priority.
Je vais – I go or I am going
Je suis allé – I went (note that this verb is also conjuged with être in the passé composé so be careful of your agreements!)
J’irai – I will go – This tense is required a lot in the Verbs for Postcards, as you are often asked to write about where you will go.

FAIRE – TO DO OR TO MAKE
Verbs for postcards, this is used to express activities, weather and individual sports. The verb faire is irregular in the present, passé composé and future.
Je fais – I do/make I am doing/am making
J’ai fait – I did/ I made
Je ferai – I will do/make

ARRIVER – TO ARRIVE –
This is a regular verb in the present tense but is conjugated with être in the passé composé
J’arrive – I arrive or I am arriving
Je suis arrivé(e) – I arrived
J’arriverai – I will arrive

RESTER – TO STAY
This is a regular verb in the present tense but is conjugated with être in the passé composé
Je reste – I stay or I am staying
Je suis resté(e) – I stayed
Je resterai – I will stay

AIMER – TO LIKE/TO LOVE –
This is a regular verb in the present tense and is conjugated with avoir in the past
J’aime – I like
J’ai aimé – I liked (Remember that you do not change the é regardless of the subject pronoun so if you want to say, we liked it would be “Nous avons aimé”
Also, we do not usually put this verb into the future. It is generally used in the conditional to express something that you want to do in the future.
J’aimerais – I would like + verb in the infinitive.

VOYAGER – TO TRAVEL –
A lot of students mix up Voyager and travailler which is the verb to work.
This verb is regular in the present, is conjugated with the verb avoir in the passé composé and is regular in the future tense.
Je voyage – I travel / I am travelling
J’ai voyagé – I travelled
Je voyagerai – I will travel

S’AMUSER – TO ENJOY ONESELF
(This verb in verbs for postcards is a reflexive or pronominal verb and can be used in every postcard that you will ever write!)
Je m’amuse – I enjoy myself or I am enjoying myself
Je me suis amusé(e) – I enjoyed myself – Note that all reflexive verbs are conjugated with être in the past tense.
Je m’amuserai – I will enjoy myself

ACHETER – TO BUY –
The verb acheter is unusual in that it has peculiarity in spelling. Be very careful of the way it is written in all tenses! Note also that it is a verb beginning with a vowel, so you write j’ and not je.
J’achète – I buy or I am buying
J’ai acheté – I bought
J’achèterai – I will buy

VOIR – TO SEE –
When you are writing postcards, it is always a good idea to write about something that you have seen while on holidays. This verb is also irregular in present, past and future.
Je vois – I see/ I am seeing
J’ai vu – I saw
Je verrai – I will see

VISITER – TO VISIT
Regular ER verb in the present. Conjugated with avoir in the passé composé, and regular in the future.
Je visite – I visit or I am visiting
J’ai visité – I visited
Je visiterai – I will visit.

MANGER – TO EAT –
Regular verb with particularity in spelling in the “nous” form. Conjugated using the verb avoir in the passé composé
Je mange – I eat or I am eating
J’ai mangé – I ate
Je mangerai – I will eat
