French Verbs In The Leaving Cert Past Papers
FRENCH VERBS IN THE LEAVING CERT PAST PAPERS
Leaving Cert French Exam
As students prepare for the Leaving Cert French exam, they find that going through the past papers is an effective way of studying. I couldn’t agree more! However, I find that students are not getting the maximum value out of these papers, in particular the reading comprehensions. Each reading comprehension is a treasure trove of grammatical constructions, vocabulary and verbs. In reading the comprehensions, students are looking for very specific answers, and this is what they will need to do during the leaving cert exam, so again, I agree that this is what you should be doing with the papers.
However once you have found the answers, and had them verified by your teacher, don’t put the paper down, never to be seen again. Use the paper to garner as much french as possible.
Reading Comprehension
One of the ways in which you could get more use out of exam papers is to go through each reading comprehension, and pick out the verbs from it. You can of course go a step further, and put these verbs into different tenses, but that is another blog! Did you know that in a typical Leaving cert comprehension, there are approximately 60 verbs! In my verb list, I have taken the verbs, put them into the infinitive, and categorised them into: irregular verbs, regular verbs, regular verbs with spelling particularities and reflexive verbs.
2017 Honours Leaving Cert Paper
I have a partial list here of verbs which came up in the 2017 Honours leaving cert paper. (full version available to subscribed members of French Notes). The verbs are taken from the 1st comprehension which speaks about how Tourism in Paris has been affected by various issues, and how the Parisien people are tackling the fall in tourist numbers. The full list of verbs is available on my website to subscribed members, and there are a number of years available, at both Junior and Senior level.
